LSU Coach Brian Kelly says quarterback Jayden Daniels is making progress from the head injury he sustained in the Alabama game. He missed Tuesday’s practice Kelly says Daniels worked out Wednesday morning.
“That workout well which is the last stage before he’s cleared for non-contact practice, so we are expecting him to practice today,” said Kelly.
Kelly says if it goes well at practice Wednesday, he’ll be cleared to participate in contact drills on Thursday.
Daniels took a helmet to helmet hit in last Saturday’s loss to Alabama and was placed in concussion protocol. Kelly says Daniels has been moving through the steps well.
“He worked out (Wednesday) morning, ran 20 miles an hour and today he’ll be able to practice in a non-contact fashion.” said Kelly.
LSU will host Florida on Saturday night. Garrett Nussmeier took first team snaps in practice yesterday. Kelly says Daniels returns to practice today, but he’s not ready to say who will start at quarterback against the Gators.
“If he goes through today’s practice then we’ll decide what’s preparation level compared to Nussmeier’s preparation level and make a decision on who will start on Saturday,” said Kelly.
Daniels is a Heisman Trophy candidate, but will likely not win the award, because the Tigers have three losses.
