Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow has introduced bipartisan legislation to increase access to childcare for small businesses. As a single mother herself, she says the Childcare Small Business Insight and Improvement Act will help parents across the country.
“This is really just encouraging government agencies to produce those studies so we have the data to back up that parents are struggling –- that they need this childcare.”
The bill would require the U.S. Small Business Administration to conduct a study on the needs and challenges of for-profit childcare providers and identify resources. Since the pandemic, Letlow says many working mothers had to leave the workforce.
“We’ve struggled with getting them back into the workforce. We know that it’s a matter of providing adequate childcare.”
With small businesses still struggling post-pandemic to find qualified workers, Letlow says resolving childcare issues is vital for the economy and families.
“It would only help our economy. Being a single mom myself, I understand firsthand the challenges that parents are facing, especially with young children, to get back into the workforce. So we need to support these young parents.”
Ohio Representative Democrat Greg Landsman is co-sponsoring the bill with Letlow.
