When announcing his appointment to lead the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Governor-elect Jeff Landry was asked if he plans to continue Governor John Bel Edwards’ 2050 Carbon-Neutral initiative.
“Everything that I’ve read about any policy of trying to be carbon neutral is extremely destructive at this time, on the economy and certainly on the backs of working people,” said Landry.
Edwards’ climate action plan is the only one in the Deep South and has a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.
Landry touted the state’s oil & gas industry and the vital role it plays in both the state and the world’s economy…
“We are going to take a serious approach about protecting our environment while balancing the industries that have built this state so that we have good quality jobs here in Louisiana and we want to grow those jobs,” said Landry.
During his campaign, Landry said he promised voters his administration would concentrate on businesses and industries that have grown the state.
“To protect our environment and to protect our industries it’s important that we have a highly qualified team of experts in both the industry and the environment,” said Landry.
Landry’s appointment to head DEQ, Aurelia Skipwith Giacometto has worked for the chemical company Monsanto and Ramaco Resources, a developer of metallurgical coal mines.
