You can’t always get what you want but Jazz Fest is hoping to get what you need. After two previous attempts booking the Rolling Stones for the fairgrounds, Times-Picayune and NOLA.com music writer Keith Spera said fingers crossed that third time’s the charm.
“The Stones have been booked at least two previous times at Jazz Fest, once in 2019, then again in 2021, neither one of those happened. The first time because Mick Jagger needed heart surgery, the second time because COVID canceled the entire 2021 Jazz Fest,” said Spera.
The Stones will play Thursday, May 2nd and Jazz Fest will be the second stop on their US tour promoting their new album, Hackney Diamonds. After kicking off in Houston they’ll roll over to Crescent City. Spera said The Stones obviously want to play Jazz Fest, even after being rebooked several times before…
“They’re definitely fans of New Orleans music and I think they understand what Jazz Fest is and they want to be a part of it. It’s just a matter of getting everything to line up,” said Spera.

Besides fans in Louisiana, Spera believes this stop on the Hackney Diamonds tour will attract Stones fans from all corners of the globe because it’s their only non-stadium show.
“It’s a festival crowd so everybody’s basically out there on the field as one big mass singing along to all the Rolling Stones’ favorite songs. It will be a very unique Rolling Stones experience unlike anything else on the tour out there on the fairgrounds,” said Spera.
Presale tickets for Louisiana residents will be available November 29th, visit NOjazzfest.com for more information.
