A WalletHub study ranks which retailers are offering the best Black Friday discounts. Analyst Cassie Happe said JCPenney tops the list with an average discount of 59% followed by Macy’s with 58% and in third place Belk with 55%. Surprisingly she said Amazon ranked 8th this year…
The average discount is around 29% so it seems like Amazon is giving us better deals throughout the year, so when Black Friday rolls around they’re not rolling their prices back as much,” said Happe.
When you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, Happe said consumer packaged goods top the list.
“We’re talking like your shampoo, skincare, perfumes and colognes and stuff like that. They’re averaging around a 35% discount across the different retailers,” said Happe.
Apparel and accessories are another great deal with an average discount of 32%. In third place are appliances with an average discount of 28%.
Despite the discounts, Happe said more than one in three Americans are forgoing gifts this year due to inflation.
“And on top of that 28% of people will just be spending less this year than last year because of that inflation factor,” said Happe.
When it comes to gift cards, WalletHub said when you consider the popularity and best value the top three are Starbucks, Sephora, and Target.
