The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program will open its fourth round of grants Monday at noon. 750 grants will be awarded to eligible homeowners on a first-come, first-served basis. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says interested homeowners should register at https://ldi.la.gov/.
“They total $10 thousand each for removing and replacing your existing roof with one that is up to the standards set by the IBHS.”
The LFHP began with enough funding to award an estimated 3,000 grants. Donelon says residents will have to meet certain requirements to be eligible for upgrading their roof standard including…
“You have to have a homestead exemption, you have to have an insurance policy with wind coverage, if you’re in a flood zone you have to have flood insurance. And finally, there’s a foundation requirement but that’s a very rare exception.”
Grant funds are paid directly to contractors. Homeowners are financially responsible for all costs beyond the full grant amount. Grant funding is limited to construction costs.
Donelon says homeowners are required to create a profile in the LFHP system. He says once a profile has been created…
“And at noon the website will show either “submit or apply.” And when you see that, hit that button and if you’re one of the first 750 you’ll be granted a $10 thousand grant.”
