Heisman Trophy ballots will go out to 928 voters on Monday and the ballots are due on Monday, December 4th. Heisman finalists will be announced that day and the prestigious award will be handed out in New York City on December 9th.
LSU quarterback Daniels is a sure bet to be a finalist and most oddsmakers have him the favorite to win the award after accounting for eight touchdowns in a blowout win over Georgia State.
Daniels will not have the benefit of a conference championship game. His main competition will play an extra game.
But Daniels can make a statement for the Heisman by putting up big numbers against the eighth-ranked best defense in FBS college football.
The Aggies are allowing only 287 yards a game. They lead the country in tackles for a loss.
Get ready to hear Edgerrin Copper’s name a lot. The junior from Covington High School in Louisiana has 75 tackles on the season, 16 tackles for a loss and seven sacks. He had three sacks in the Alabama game.
Fadil Diggs is another guy who gets in the offensive backfield a lot. The 6-5, 260-pound junior from New Jersey has eleven tackles for a loss and four sacks.
Shemar Turner is another disruptor. The 6-4, 290-pound junior from DeSoto, Texas has 10.5 tackles for a loss.
LSU enters the game with a streak of 13 consecutive scoring drives. The last drive against Georgia State does not count, since the Tigers did not try to score. Daniels has also accounted for 16 touchdowns in his last three games.
Texas A&M arguably has the best defense in the SEC. But they’ve had issues in their defensive secondary like LSU. They’ve given up 320 passing yards or more in losses to Miami, Alabama and Ole Miss.
A&M can be had, and LSU will do all it can to put big numbers. Not only for Daniels but for receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr who are competing for the Biletnikoff Award.
Saturday could mark the return of former LSU quarterback Max Johnson. Johnson has not played the last two games for the Aggies because of a rib injury. He’s questionable for Saturday’s regular-season finale.
If he doesn’t go, Jaylen Henderson will start. He’s thrown for 410 yards and four touchdowns in the last two games, and he’s rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
Those are numbers Daniels can put up in a game.
I like LSU to win 42-28.
