If you plan on browsing the web looking for Cyber Monday deals, Carmen Million with the Better Business Bureau says shoppers should be on the lookout for scams. She says be aware of false advertising and before you enter your payment information, make sure it’s a legitimate website.
“Scammers can create websites that look real. Make sure the web address is spelled correctly and always make sure the company contact information is included in the website.”
Million says to also check that your anti-virus software is up to date before you make an online purchase. She urges shoppers to avoid non-secure sites and when making an online purchase it’s best to use your credit card.
“Make sure the site you are on is secure. It should have “https” – “s” standing for secure. Always use a credit card or a safe way to pay for that item in case you’re not happy or you need to return it.”
Million says many major retailers offer loyalty programs and suggest using them for special point offers that could add up. She also advises that you read the fine print and understand return policies before you complete your purchase.
“You should understand return policies may be different online. So always find out what that store policy is before you click on the button.”
