Governor-elect Jeff Landry has announced the next leader of State Police when he takes office in January. Major Robert Hodges, a 28-year veteran of LSP and a New Orleans native will be the next superintendent of the state’s leading law enforcement agency.
“I am completely confident that we will be able to strengthen and support our state police, continue to build public trust, and keep this state safe,” said Landry.
Landry made the announcement at the Caesars’s Superdome in New Orleans and that he’s created a partnership with Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams in an effort to reduce crime in the state’s largest city and bring in additional qualified prosecutors.
“It is our hope, both Jason’s and I’s hope, that this new partnership will assist in restoring the rule of law to this city and provide victims the justice they deserve,” said Landry.
Landry also announced that the Attorney General’s office will supply additional trained prosecutors to Crescent City.
The governor-elect said he will bring in as much of a law enforcement presence into the city as necessary to keep the entire city safe.
“And we’re committed to doing that. And so, I can’t speak for New Year’s Eve, they don’t swear us in until January 8th, but certainly Mardi Gras we’ll be there,” said Landry.
Landry said he’s also met with Mayor LaToya Cantrell, and he pledges to work with her on his security and safety plans for the city.
