California will face off against Texas Tech in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport on December 16th. Bowl spokesperson Erik Evenson said it’s their first power-five match-up since 2016. With two high-profile teams, Evenson said it’s a three-hour commercial for Shreveport-Bossier City.
“Very excited to show off our area on national TV with these two teams, but then the traveling fanbase aspect as well, having Texas Tech. Excited to get all those fans over here to Shreveport for the game,” said Evenson.
Both teams are six and six for the season, but U Cal won a big game over UCLA and Evenson said they have a dynamic running back with Jaydn Ott. Texas Tech had big wins over Kansas and UCF and a leading running back with Tahj Brooks. Evenson said it will be a great match-up…
“Two teams that are hot right now, I think better than what their records show. From the reaction of people, we’ve gotten in the Shreveport Bossier City area I know they’re two teams people are excited to watch play too,” said Evenson.
The game is usually held closer to Christmas which made it more difficult for fans to travel but this year it will be prime time and on a Saturday. Evenson said it’s a win-win for fans who are traveling and locals to enjoy the festivities leading up to kickoff.
“And then watch a great football game at night and then also for the fans traveling, they can come in on Friday or come in on Saturday morning and still be able to get home if they need to work on Monday,” said Evenson.
The Pac-12 Golden Bears will play the Big 12 Conference Red Raiders on Saturday, December 16th at 8:15 on ESPN. For tickets and more information visit RadianceTechnologiesIndependenceBowl.com
