The first 13 homes to have a fortified roof installed through the Louisiana Fortified Roof Grant Program have been completed. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon stopped by a home in Slidell and says it’s exciting to see the first homes finished.
“We have 13 completed and we have grants awarded to three thousand folks already. They’re in the process of selecting an evaluator.”
Qualified homeowners were awarded up to 10 thousand dollars to upgrade their roofs.
Homeowner Alicia Craige is among one of the first to have her roof installed. To comply with insurance requirements, Craige says she needed to get her roof repaired immediately so she applied online.
“My roof was going to be about 15 years old at the time that I applied for the grant and I had a lot of insurance agencies that didn’t even want to give me a quote until I got a new roof.”
After getting the green light to move forward, Craige says she selected a contractor and her roof was up. She says the entire process was seamless and she’s pleased with the results.
“The contractors from start to finish everything was just wonderful. The work on my home was just marvelous. I can’t praise them enough.”
The LFHP awarded three thousand grants to homeowners in the Bayou State.
