LSU FACES recreation of possible 2005 John Doe that was found in an oil drum encased in cement. The oil drum was found in a shallow near Clarence in Natchitoches Parish.
DNA from remains of a 2005 Natchitoches Parish cold case is being profiled at a Texas lab, in hopes of identifying the body. Director of Operations of Othram Labs, Colby Lasyone said they believe the body found in an oil drum encased in cement is that of a black male between the ages of 18 and 30.
“Likely between 5’6” and 5’10”. Beyond that there isn’t a lot of information,” said Lasyone.
The body was located in a shallow creek near Clarance and was ruled a homicide. It was determined that the victim had been deceased for as few as one year or as many as twenty-five years.
Lasyone said after a valid sample of DNA is extracted from the remains, it will be compared to possible genealogy matches.
“The evidence that we received we feel good about it, and we’ll be able to get leads back to this agency and we will, I believe, get answers in this particular case,” said Lasyone.
The biggest barrier Lasyone said is funding. Not every agency has the budget to deep dive into cold cases and perform extensive lab work. He said they are raising funds at DNAsolves.com.
“The goal is $7,500 and that will basically cover from evidence receipt to answers back to the agency,” said Lasyone.
If you have any information about the case, you’re asked to call the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office at 318-357-2260 and reference case number J-00506-05.
