Friday begins the start of a very busy travel holiday season. Nationwide, AAA Analyst Don Redman says more than 115 million people will pack roadways and airports.
“Second highest numbers we’ve been tracking in the past 23 years. Really close to 2019 but again the second busiest holiday travel season for Christmas and New Year’s.”
Redman says this year-end forecast of people traveling by car will increase by nearly two percent compared to last year. He says this year’s estimations are the second-highest on record.
“About 103-104 million people are going to travel by their cars. When you look at our region, that involves Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas, we’re talking almost 11 million people on the roads.”
The statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline is around $2.70 just a few cents cheaper than a year ago.
Redman says they expect a record 7.5 million will travel by air for the end-of-year holidays…
“If you’re flying domestically get at least two hours in advance. If you’re traveling internationally we encourage you to get three hours in advance. Expect long delays in the screening process. And also expect delays ’cause we’re talking about winter.”
