The LSU Lady Tigers could be hosting a game against Southern in Tiger Stadium next year. Head Coach Kim Mulkey said she’s not sure how possible it would be but likes the idea of hosting a game that could have over 100,000 fans.
“That would be fun. I don’t know if it could be done, with SEC football schedule, the weather. I think it would be hard not to kill the real grass if you put a court down there.”
Iowa set a women’s basketball attendance record earlier this year as over 55,000 fans packed their football stadium for an exhibition game against DePaul. Nebraska volleyball set the record for most fans at any women’s sporting event with over 92,000 at their Memorial Stadium in August. While Mulkey said the idea hasn’t been shared with Southern, a historic game against the Lady Tigers’ 225 rivals could be in the works.
“I can tell you I’ve had discussions with Dr. Tate about that possibility next year. Now, I don’t know if it will even work out, but we’ve certainly had a conversation.”
Proceeds from the game could go to assisting Southern’s women’s basketball program and their NIL fund.
