The first Buc-cees in Louisiana is one step closer to reality. The Bond Commission has approved the city of Ruston’s request of $15 million to finance infrastructure to accommodate the project. Mayor Ronny Walker said now they are waiting on final plans from state transportation.
“We wanted to go ahead and get all the money in place so that when they do approve the plans which we hope will be quickly, we can also start very quickly on the development,” said Walker.
$15 million from the bond commission, $6 million from the state, and an expected $6 million from Congress will fund the construction of service roads, interchanges, etc. for the toothy beaver superstore. Walker said it’s a good return on investment for the state.
“From gasoline tax but also sales tax, so it’s basically a no brainer from their standpoint because they will be receiving their $6 million that they are putting in will be coming back to them in less than six years,” said Walker.
In addition to a good return on investment for the state, and Beaver Nuggets, Walker said Bucee’s will also provide more than 250 high-paying jobs.
“Most of them pay $18 to $20 an hour, plus you have three weeks’ vacation, you have 401K with a match, and the most important part of that they also have health insurance,” said Walker.
The store will be located between Rushton and Grambling and Walker said the opportunity for new employment will benefit both towns.
Construction is expected to begin next year and is projected to open in 2025.
