The State Supreme Court has opted not to hear Caddo Parish Sheriff candidate Henry Whitehorn’s appeal to keep his one-vote victory in the run-off election. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruled for another runoff due to voting irregularities.
“There were five who voted to deny, two that would have heard the case, doesn’t mean they would do anything with it, they would have heard it but that’s a pretty strong and I think decisive opinion of the Supreme Court to let the lower opinion rule and thus call for a new election,” said Political Analyst Scott Hughes.
After what was a heated race in 2023 for Sheriff, Hughes expects will be even more intense in the second run-off in 2024.
“And I think that we will see them attack each other because the truth is they’ve got to get their voters to the polls,” said Hughes.
With early voting starting March 9th, Hughes said Democrat Whithorn and Republican challenger John Nickelson only have about six weeks to campaign. He believes with the presidential primary at the same time it will favor Republican turnout and it also comes down to…
“Money what’s your campaign structure, I think Nickelson starts out with more cash on hand. They both will have to raise funds quickly, but this is going to be a get-out-the-vote race,” said Hughes.
The Secretary of State’s Office has set March 23rd for the run-off.
