Lafayette’s Mayor-President Elect Monique Boulet will be sworn in this afternoon at 3 pm at the Cajundome. Boulet is the first female to serve in the position. She says her first call to action is to build trust, increase transparency, and build the city’s economy.
“We’re looking to create some stability back in local government and then very quickly going back to work on economic development as well revitalization. Just kind of a rebirth in the city of Lafayette.”
In 2022, 98 homicides were reported across the Acadiana area by local law enforcement agencies. Boulet says she’s working on addressing the significant increase in violent crime in Hub City.
“So we’ve already begun talks with local police departments as well as the sheriff. And I think bringing all of the critical stakeholders together and really trying to be innovative in what we do to address crime.”
The daughter of former Governor Kathleen Blanco has also served as CEO of the Acadiana Planning Commission. When asked how her mother would feel, she says…
“I’m sure she would have some tidbit of advice of what to say and what not to say. And really just tell me to enjoy it. She was so graceful at everything she did. I do feel them with me in all of this.”
