Nicholls State University has received a $3-million donation, which is the largest in the school’s history. Nicholls’ spokesperson Jerad David said the Mary and Al Danos Family Foundation commitment will be used to construct a new College of Business Administration.
“We’ve been just really excited about this, and we saw fit that we rename the College of Business Administration. It will now be known as The Al Danos College of Business Administration at Nicholls State University,” said David.
David said Al Danos was always a big fan and supporter of the university and the generous donation from his family will not only go towards funding a new building, but it will also carry on the family’s legacy.
“This $3 million is a huge deal and a big step towards getting that new facility built that will be the future home of The Al Danos College of Business Administration,” said David.
Approximately one-fifth of Nicholls’ students are business majors.
In addition to the $3-million donation, David said the school is seeking state capital outlay funds and private funds to construct the new building.
David said the atrium in the new building will be named after The Brady Family, who’s also from Bayou Lafourche, thanks to their recent donation. He said they hope these donations will inspire others to leave their mark on the university as well.
“We’ve seen it before, when one family makes a gift of this nature, it sort of draws the attention of other people to say well I want to be a part of this new facility,” said David.
The new building will be located on the current site of the school’s J.J. Ayo Swimming Pool.
