Bittersweet Confections bakery motto is “Let them eat cake” but not without paying for them. A king cake thief broke into the New Orleans bakery last week and stole cash, a case of vodka, and seven king cakes with the plastic babies inside. Owner Cheryl Scripter says watching her surveillance video gave her an uneasy feeling…
“It’s never a good feeling know that somebody was in your home or in your business looking through all your things and up to no good so it’s very uncomfortable and creepy.”
King cake thieves also hit up King Cake Drive Thru in New Orleans Monday night.
Scripter says she was alerted of the burglary after 5 pm after she closed the store to visit her second location. She says she’s not flattered the thief returned for her tasty rings of pastry with purple, green, and gold sugar.
“It was a strange take but you know I can’t speak for him but he definitely came back a second time and took the king cakes. First time it was the vodka, second time he came back and took the king cakes.”
Scripter says she created a social media post that received more than 100 likes in support of the unfortunate incident. When asked of her thoughts on the individual that would break into her business and snatch up her king cakes…
“People that saw the story as far away as Chicago, people from Pennsylvania, people from New York, they’ve come in town and they’re like oh I saw the story and we wanted to come in and support you. And things like that, put a smile on my face.”
Scripter encourage all king cake lovers to visit bittersweetconfections dot com to order their favorite flavor.
