Kanter resigns as state health officer

Former LDH State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter

State Health Officer Dr Joe Kanter who led the state through the COVID pandemic has resigned. When Louisiana was among the first state’s hardest hit with COVID Kanter became a daily fixture providing updates on the outbreak and fact-based research on the virus. He was also a fierce advocate for vaccines and was among the first health officials to be vaccinated. Kanter did not say where he would serve next, but he continues to maintain positions at the University Health Center, LSU Health Sciences Center, and Tulane University’s School of Medicine. He resides in New Orleans along with his wife and daughter who was born during the pandemic.
