
One juvenile male has been arrested and another suspect is on the run following a carjacking in Lafayette which resulted in the stolen vehicle slamming into a police vehicle in Acadia Parish. Lafayette Police Lieutenant Jace Quebedeaux says the carjacking happened last night as the victim was exiting his vehicle after returning home.
“While he was exiting his vehicle, he was approached by two males with what he described as were semi-automatic firearms and they demanded the keys to his vehicle.”
When law enforcement located the vehicle, Quebedeaux says the driver led police on two high speed chases across Lafayette and Acadia Parishes. During the pursuit in Crowley…
“The male suspect driver struck the police unit that was pursuing him which caused the stolen vehicle to exit the road and basically crash into a ditch.”
The subject fled from the vehicle and a foot pursuit began. Quebedeaux says officers arrested a male teen. And following the search of the vehicle.
“They did locate semi-automatic rifle in the interior of the vehicle. I think on the back seat.”
Quebedeaux says no officers were injured in the pursuit. Police are looking for a second unknown male suspect.
