Former Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth, who served four terms died Monday at his home. Hollingsworth served as mayor from 1999 to 20015. Current Mayor Ronnie Walker said Hollingsworth was always looking to improve Ruston and spearheaded their downtown revitalization.
“Which we’re continuing to improve on. His legacy will go down in history as one of the best mayors we’ve ever had,” said Walker.
Walker said Hollingsworth, who was a father of five, was well thought of not only for his accomplishments but for his character as well.
“Steered us through some tough times within the city and we just lost a real leader and real pillar of our community and someone that people could look up to and go to for advice,” said Walker.
Hollingsworth was the brainchild of the Ruston 21 plan for capital improvements, economic development, and land-use improvements. Walker said Hollingsworth is also remembered for strengthening the town’s relationship with Louisiana Tech.
“He will be missed greatly by myself and all residents of Ruston both now and the ones that will come in the future,” said Walker.
The former radio station owner and broadcaster was 89.
