LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey has blasted Los Angeles Times writer Ben Bolch for describing the Lady Tigers as villains and dirty debutantes. Coach Kim Mulkey called the column sexist.
“You don’t have to like the way we play, you don’t have to like the way we trash talk, you don’t have to like any of that, we are good with that,” said Mulkey. “But I can’t sit up here as a mother and grandmother and a leader of young people to allow someone to say that.”
Bolch made the bold statements because of Mulkey’s rant against the Washington Post and Angel Reese’s history of trash-talking. The LA Times edited the column after it was published saying it did not meet the Times editorial standards.
LSU guard Hailey Van Lith says the article was extremely hurtful.
“Some of the words in that article were very sad and upsetting, I didn’t want us to read that article before the game, because just hearing stuff like that is not right,” said Van Lith.
Van Lith also believes the comments made by the LA Times reporter were racist.
“I know for a fact that people see us differently because we do have a lot of black women on our team,” said Van Lith.
