It’s another great week for crawfish lovers with an average 50 cent drop in prices this week. Crawfish App Co-Founder Laney King says the industry lowered prices again which brings the average price for a sack under $100.
“You can find live crawfish priced at under $3 a pound which puts a sack at under $100 total and that’s really that sweet spot.”
King says you can expect to pay about $5.99 a pound for boiled crawfish at your local crawfish business. She says there’s been a consistent weekly drop in crawfish prices since Easter Sunday, but the average price for live crawfish last year was at $2.57 .
“This time last year, prices were at $1.50 a pound cheaper. It’s definitely still much higher than many folks are even willing to pay or can afford to pay but it is what it is.”
While Orleans Parish has the cheapest mudbugs at $2.65 a pound, she says it’s always worth checking the crawfish app for price change.
“Yesterday for example, the cheapest I could find was $2.99 a pound. And then like I said, this morning I looked we got $2.65 a pound, $2.79 a pound, $2.89. So as the weekend progresses those prices might drop.”
