Adults interested in receiving the necessary education to land a job in a high-demand field can now apply for financial assistance through the M.J. Foster Promise Program. Brittany Terrio with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance says the award amount is $3,200 per year for a full-time student and students can receive a maximum of $6,400 over three years.
“It is limited to tuition, fees, books and supplies and it is a grant program so students are not required to pay this award back,” Terrio said.
The grant dollars can be used at any Louisiana Community and Technical College school, plus LSU-Shreveport and LSU-Eunice.
Terrio says the M.J. Foster Promise Program provides financial support for eligible adult students who are earning credentials that align with high-demand jobs.
“So they can use that award for certain high-demand sectors, like information technology, manufacturing, construction, transportation and warehousing, and health care,” Terrio said.
This is the third year of the M.J. Foster Promise Program and Theriot says last year they had more than 10,000 applicants.
“With the interest we’ve had in the program in the last couple of years, go ahead and get that application in,” Terrio said.
