GOHSEP and the Louisiana Safe School Center announced the new School Safety Grant with $5 million in grant funding for schools across the state. GOHSEP Director of Strategic Engagement Rubby Douglas.
“So that over a year project. Those grant awards are done for an entire year for possible opportunities to reapply. We’re hoping that can be some sustainable options on the local level.”
The grants were awarded for 126 projects in 40 parishes around the state. Each project will receive up to fifty thousand dollars. Douglas says the funds will be used in a variety of ways.
“Each school has to build their own plans because everybody is a little bit unique from one another. These not a cookie cutter approach. So a lot of these initiatives are protective measures at a the permitter for those schools.”
Douglas says that funds should be available July 1st and schools will being projects this summer and be in place for the upcoming school year.
“We know that sometimes there’s a lot of disparity in the state and be able to dedicate those kind of resources. Really proud that those state leaders have come together to look at comprehensive safe measures for students”
The funds were awarded to public and private schools around the state.
