The Nation Weather Service has confirmed that 19 tornadoes in the ArkLaTex were a result of Hurricane Beryl. Shreveport Nation Weather Service Senior Meteorologist Michael Berry says sixteen of the 19 tornadoes touched down in northwest Louisiana.
“We’ve seen a couple of trailers totally destroyed, roofing pulled back from structures. Most of the structural damage has been from falling trees onto homes, onto businesses, onto cars.”
Berry says the tornadoes, range from EF-0 to EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita (foo-gee-tah) Scale.
The most severe damage was reported in rural areas, where several homes were destroyed. Several people sustained injuries and one 30-years-old woman was killed by an EF 1 tornado that originated in Bossier Parish.
“That fatality east of Benton occurred when a fallen tree fell on a, I believe it was a single-wide mobile home.”
Berry says the National Weather Service has been actively surveying impacted areas and he expects the number of confirmed tornadoes to increase.
“That number increasing from 19 to somewhere between 24 to 36 is probably where the total will end up.”
