Two attendees of a rally for former president Donald Trump in Pennsylvania are critically injured and one is dead after a man who was not at the rally shot at the former president in an assassination attempt. Trump was hit in the ear by a bullet but wasn’t seriously harmed and left the rally safely.
Louisiana leaders quickly reacted to the shooting at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“It’s a dark time in our nation,” Governor Jeff Landry said. “Now more than ever we need to pray for America and pray for President Trump. There is no one who stands up more for our country than President Trump.’
Political violence has no place in America,” U.S. Senator John Kennedy said.
U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy had similar comments.
All violence should be condemned but particularly political violence which attempts to shape the direction of the country,” Cassidy said. We do not bow to political terrorists.”
Majority Leader Steve Scalise from Jefferson Parish, nearly died in a shooting in 2017 after he and other Congressmen were shot at a park said on Fox News the rhetoric charged the shooter.
“I mean everybody’s got to look at the rhetoric. But, you know, it’s one side that is going after Donald Trump in a way to demonize him personally. You know, when we talk about the policies of the Democrats and the progressives, it’s those policies that need to be front and center but the left seems to have targeted Donald Trump as a person. They don’t talk about how they don’t like his pet tax and border policies. They just go after him personally, they demonize him.”
“This horrific act of political violence at a peaceful campaign rally has no place in this country and should be unanimously and forcefully condemned, ” House Speaker Mike Johnson said.
“Violence has no place in political discourse, regardless of our vehement philosophical differences. We must stand united against such actions and uphold the principles of democracy and respect” Democratic New Orleans Congressman Troy Carter.
Congressman Clay Higgins is a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee and they will conduct an investigation into the assassination attempt against Trump.
“The American people demand answers about yesterday’s assassination attempt on President Trump,” said Congressman Higgins. “The House Oversight Committee is in communication with the U.S. Secret Service. We will thoroughly investigate the events that transpired at President Trump’s rally. America deserves the full truth.”
U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Chatie has been requested to testify at a public hearing on July 22nd.
