Louisiana’s delegation to the Democratic National Convention has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Presidential nominee. That’s according to state Democratic Party chairman Randal Gaines, who says a vote was taken virtually on Sunday night.
New Orleans Representative Mandie Landry said Biden and his family have sacrificed so much in the last few years and she’s glad he was the one to choose to step down as the party’s nominee.
“I think it was the right decision for him and for the country. This goes beyond a political decision, and it was the right decision for our country,” said Landry.
PSC Commissioner Davante Lewis said Biden looked at the campaign to see if he could deliver for the American people and concluded it was in the best interest to step aside.
“And allow the Democratic Party to put up a new nominee to ensure that the four years of progress will continue on with a Democratic Presidency,” said Lewis.
Both also fully support Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee. Landry said Harris is competent and she was very excited to see her become Vice President and points out that she was also chosen by voters on the Biden-Harris ticket to take over the role of President should something happen.
“She is an extraordinary, interesting, accomplished, capable woman who is a lot more charismatic than our usual politicians,”
Landry says Harris was her first choice for President in 2019.
Lewis said Harris has the experience and proper temperament to unite the party and is a viable candidate against former President Donald Trump. He said the Trump campaign message against Biden’s age and ability to carry out the job no longer works to the GOP’s advantage with Biden out of the race.
“It’s a very different campaign, and I don’t think Donald Trump can stand the chance when he is forced to own his record rather than making everything about the ability of the President as he was trying to do,” said Lewis.
The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago from August 19-22.
