The Louisiana Department of Education has named the Teacher of the Year award to Elise Boutin (boo-tan). Boutin teaches 12th-grade English at Rayne High School in Acadia Parish.
“What I love most about this specific position is that I really get to help my students transition from being children to adults.”
Boutin revived the student-produced YouTube Channel Rayne, Alive! Program which connects students to local broadcasting opportunities in their area, and started a cross-country team at the school.
“It’s just really cool to be a part of someone’s life in a small kind of way that maybe you made a bit of an impact,” Boutin said.
Boutin is going into her 15th year as a teacher and says seeing past students succeed as adults and reach goals they didn’t think were possible is a reward in itself.
“Usually in August, my seniors from the year before who complained about everything I made them do, they’re normally emailing me “Ok I’m so glad you made me do this because I’m really having an easy time” and I was like, Great I did my job.”
