After resigning last week as Mayor of DeRidder, 42-year-old Misty Roberts was arrested today and charged with 3rd Degree Rape and Contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. State Police Sgt Ross Brennan said when the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office received the complaint, they were asked to take over the investigation.
“Our SVU conducted interviews with two juveniles, one of which was the victim. And both juveniles confirmed that Roberts had sexual intercourse with one juvenile victim while employed as Mayor,” said Brennan.
The LSP Special Victim’s Unit is investigating the case and Brennan said if you believe someone or a child is being victimized to speak up and notify law enforcement.
“You can go to State Police’s website page and report suspicious activity, or you can contact your local law enforcement agency and give them a tip that this doesn’t really seem right, I don’t really know what it is but it might be something worthwhile investigating,” said Brennan.
Roberts was booked into the Beauregard Parish Detention Center; her bond is $75,000.
Adam Johnson, Roberts’ attorney, released the following statement:
“It is my honor to represent Misty Roberts. My client learned late last night of a warrant, despite not being contacted to be interviewed prior to investigators obtaining the warrant. My client maintains her innocence and, as it stands, she is in fact innocent. She has not been charged with a crime and/or convicted of any crime. And we trust the public will respect her constitutional presumption of innocence which is fundamental to our system of justice. Misty and her family are very grateful for the support they have received from their friends and neighbors, and we look forward to putting this unfortunate situation behind them.”
