New Orleans Representative Mandie Landry is in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention. She was locked in to go with the Louisiana Delegation while President Joe Biden was the nominee, but says she’s more hopeful about current nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.
“She’s the opposite of the doom and gloom and negativity and maliciousness of the [former president Donald] Trump campaign,” Landry explains. “It’s polar opposites.”
Landry says she’s excited and proud to publicly support Harris and her campaign policies, including stopping companies from gouging prices and…
“Making sure Medicare and hopefully private insurance companies are required to— or they can negotiate medicine prices. I mean, that alone could get her elected if she could get that done.”
Landry says Harris and running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are normal people and they call Walz “Dad” because of his humor and principles.
“Love him!” Landry says of Walz. “Everyone seems to love him. Again, [he’s a] nice, normal guy. People call him ‘Dad.’ He is! I mean whenever I hear stuff [like] the dad jokes and fixing the car, I think of my dad. That’s all the things my dad would be doing. And that’s extremely relatable to people in the country and shows that he’s a practical person. He’s not this bickering wheeling-and-dealing, he’s also had a life of service; he was a teacher, for Christ’s sake. I mean, you have to really care about people to be a teacher for that long, and I think that shows that he does.”
The Democratic National Convention in Chicago runs through Thursday night.
