Louisiana’s Department of Children and Family Services has opened the application process for Phase 3 of SUN Bucks. This program provides a one-time benefit of $120 dollars to low income families with children to help pay for meals during the summer time when schools are closed. DCFS Economic Stability Director Tim Jenkins says they have received over 2,000 applications so far.
“That online application is going to run from this past Monday through September 20th.”
Phase 3 applications are open for households with children who attended CEP schools that receive free school meals without having to complete a form. Each eligible child receives the one-time payment on a EBT card, which can be used to purchase food at stores that accept SNAP benefits. Jenkins says the child will have 122 days to use the funds…
“From the date that its issued anything not spent at the end of 122 days will be expunged or will expire from the account.”
DCFS has made the application process straightforward, accessible online, and urges those in need to take advantage of this opportunity to ease the financial burden of feeding their children during the summer months. Jenkins says parents can reach out with any questions or to check the status of their application…
“They can call us at 1-833-323-7482 and we’re available Monday through Friday at 8:30 till 2:30.”
To apply, families need to provide basic information such as the child’s name, school attended, and household income. Go to louisiana.summerebtapp.com.
