A recent report from the Louisiana Secretary of State reveals that, as of July 1st, more women are registered to vote in the state than men by 64-percent. The data highlights a growing gender gap in voter registration, with 5,287 newly registered women voters compared to 3,305 newly registered men voters. UL Monroe Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says this could be due to Kamala Harris getting the Democratic Nomination.
“One would thing that many of these young women voters who are in fact registering to vote for the first time are African American’s who are energized by the thought of having a black woman in the White House.”
Cross says the reasons behind this disparity in registration could be linked to partisan concerns. With women likely casting their vote for Harris and men for Trump…
“…in fact this gender gap is about as high as its ever been. Its at historic levels.”
Cross says while Louisiana remains a red state and will likely go to Trump in November usually election outcome is a three-to-two margin with Republicans taking 60-percent…
“but anytime you get a large registration for Democrats it changes that slightly.”
