An Iberia Parish jail inmate’s run for freedom comes to a quick end. Kristian Broussard escaped at about 5:30 PM yesterday. Jail spokeswoman Katherine Breaux says deputies deployed resources within four minutes to track him down, and Broussard was captured shortly before midnight.
“The inmate was captured, and taken back into custody and rebooked into the Iberia Parish Jail with a charge of Aggravated Escape.”
Broussard’s initial incarceration stemmed from his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred in New Iberia in January 2019. Breaux says authorities worked diligently to ensure public safety during the search.
“He was caught within a close proximity of the Sheriff’s Office. I would say less than three-quarters of a mile.”
Breaux says authorities are now investigating how Broussard managed to escape from the facility and what security lapses, if any, may have occurred.
Precaution and extended measures have been taken to secure that area better. This is the first time since Sheriff Romero has become Sheriff that we have had a situation like this.”
