The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day by hosting events at four locations across the state this Saturday. LDWF Secretary Madison Sheahan says the event showcases what LDWF does daily.
“Last year we saw a little over a thousand people at our Woodworth property, as well as our Baton Rouge, and Minden as well as Bobcau. So we are really excited about this weekend.”
These events aim to promote outdoor activities, wildlife conservation, and responsible hunting and fishing practices. Sheahan says attendees can participate in hands-on activities like archery, fishing, and target shooting.
“So we want people to come out to our properties starting at 9 AM on Saturday to engage in those activities and you know bring your parents, bring your grandparents, bring the kids and make sure everybody gets the opportunity to see what we do.”
The events are designed to educate both newcomers and seasoned sportsmen about sustainable practices and the importance of wildlife management. Sheahan says National Hunting and Fishing Day spotlights Louisiana’s rich outdoor heritage while fostering community involvement in conservation efforts.
“Being the Sportsman Paradise, and on our land we are able to manage some of the best species in the country and we are really proud to be able to do that.”
