New Orleans is getting ready for the invasion of the Swifties.
The pop superstar will be performing three shows at the Superdome October 25th through the 27th.
Kelly Schulz with New Orleans and Company says with close to 150,000 people descending on the Crescent City, hotel rooms are nearly gone.
“We know that hotel rooms for Friday and Saturday nights are already sold out,” says Schulz. “There’s a little bit of availability left on Sunday evening, but that is going very quickly.”
And Schulz says the hospitality industry will be getting into full Taylor Swift fever.
“You’re going to see hotels and restaurants doing special menus, special cocktails, themed events, glitter parties — all of these Swiftie-type events that are designed to celebrate her and her fans in a very uniquely New Orleans way,” Schulz says.
Schulz says the Taylor Swift shows will provide a golden opportunity to showcase the city on a worldwide stage.
“We’re excited to introduce some people who haven’t maybe been to New Orleans before,” says Schulz. “Introduce them to our culture and invite them to come back for other visits throughout their lifetime.”
Schulz says through her shows, Taylor Swift single-handedly boosts cities’ economies throughout the world.
“There has been a tremendous amount of focus on how she single-handedly lifts economies in cities and states,” says Schulz, “and we are expecting that for New Orleans as well.”
Schulz says if any city can handle the influx of crowds, it’s New Orleans.
She asks, “What other city can say that in the next six months, they will host three Taylor Swift shows, a Super Bowl and Mardi Gras?”
(Editor’s note: The answer to the above question is, “None.”)
If you’d like to see Taylor Swift in concert and don’t yet have a ticket, be prepared to fork over some serious dough — tickets on the secondary market are going for a minimum of $1,000 apiece, not including fees.
