Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville celebrated the opening of a new all-inclusive playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says this playground is designed to be accessible for children of all abilities, providing a safe and welcoming space for everyone to play together.
“It’s just going to be an incredible opportunity for kids to come out whether you’re in a wheelchair, any special needs…there’s something in this playground for them, and to get out and enjoy the great outdoors in our state parks.”
The playground includes features like wheelchair-accessible swings, sensory play panels, and various play structures, promoting inclusivity and fun for children with different needs. Nungesser says its part of a larger mission to make all parks accessible and inviting to everyone….
“Any new cabins we build will have one bed with a special zipper for children that need to sleep in that bed. A fold-down peer for fishing. We want to make everything we do for our parks inviting for the special needs community.”
Local officials, park representatives, and community members attended the event, highlighting the playground’s importance as a community resource that supports inclusion and outdoor play. Nungesser says this is only the beginning…
“We are excited that this is going to be something that we are going to expand and grow on and add to all our parks to make them really inviting for that community.
