This is not a November to remember for the LSU football program. A three-game losing streak and now the loss of their prize recruit in the 2025 class.
Despite the belief that a big NIL offer would not sway Bryce Underwood’s decision to attend LSU, the nation’s number one high school prospect announced late Thursday afternoon he’s staying home and committed to Michigan.
It’s reportedly a 12-million-dollar NIL offer that changed Underwood’s mind. He committed to LSU last January and he was offered a 1.5 million dollar a year NIL package.
LSU no longer has a top 5 recruiting class, they no longer have a quarterback in their 2025 class and more defections are possible before the early signing period begins on December fourth.
Underwood had visited LSU’s campus multiple times and was most recently in Baton Rouge for the Alabama game at the beginning of this month.
He lives 30 minutes away from the Michigan campus but has reportedly not visited officially since 2023.
Underwood’s Dad said his son wanted to play in the SEC so he can develop into a front-line NFL quarterback. LSU was a logical choice since the school has developed two Heisman-winning quarterbacks over the past six seasons.
Concern started growing that Michigan would make one last push for Underwood after Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy pledged three million dollars to bring a talented quarterback to Michigan.
Despite Portnoy’s statement, the recruiting experts still said Underwood was nearly a lock to attend LSU.
But everyone has their price. It also doesn’t help that the LSU football program has fallen on hard times.
This is a tough blow for LSU as it’s too late in the recruiting season to get another elite high school senior quarterback to commit to the Tigers.
It’s now a major priority for Garrett Nussmeier to return for his fifth and last year of eligibility.
It’s also a priority to keep this 2025 class together.
The 2024 season has crumbled for the Tigers, the last thing you need is a once highly promising recruiting class to get ripped apart too.
