Yet another artificial intelligence data center is coming to Louisiana.
This latest one will be in West Feliciana Parish for a company called Hut 8, which operates Bitcoin mining facilities and data centers at 20 sites throughout North America.
“This is a totally new industry for Louisiana, and we’re primed and ready to take advantage of it,” says Parish President Kenny Havard.
Havard says this is a good time for businesses to set up shop in Louisiana
“We’ve got a good business climate right now in Louisiana,” says Havard. “Several things that the governor and the legislature have done to try to make it attractive for these folks to come here, and it seems to be working.”
The data center is expected to create several hundred permanent jobs in West Feliciana Parish.
“It’s going to be about a $12 billion investment in the first phase,” says Havard
The plan calls for two, 450,000-square-foot buildings to be put up on a 611-acre parcel off Louisiana Highway 964.
“The property that they’re looking at was owned by the parish,” says Havard. “It had several pipelines and utilities and stuff that ran through it that was just really perfect for what they were looking for.”
The first of the two buildings could be up and running by the end of next year, with the second coming before the end of 2026.
