
The LSU Tigers are headed to the Texas Bowl for the third time, and they’ll battle the Baylor Bears on New Year’s Eve at 2:30 PM at NRG Stadium.
Both teams are 8-4 and bring winning streaks to the game. The Tigers have won two in a row, while the Bears have won six in a row to finish with a 6-and-3 record in the Big 12 and they are bowl-eligible for the first time since 2022.
The season’s strong second half got Dave Aranda off the hot set. The former LSU defensive coordinator has been told he’ll return for a sixth season as the head coach.
During the six-game winning streak, Baylor beat Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, TCU, West Virginia, Houston, and Kansas.
Three of their four losses came against ranked teams: Utah, BYU, and Iowa State. They also lost to Colorado in overtime.
Baylor’s quarterback is Sawyer Robertson. He’s thrown for 2,626 yards and 26 touchdowns. Robertson has thrown six interceptions. Bryson Washington has rushed for 1,004 yards and 12 touchdowns. Josh Cameron has caught 44 passes for 643 yards and nine touchdowns.
This will be LSU and Baylor’s first matchup since the 1985 Liberty Bowl. The Tigers lead the overall series 8 to 3.
LSU last played in the Houston Bowl to finish the 2021 season. The Tigers only had 37 scholarship players and lost to Kansas State 42-20.
LSU’s first appearance in the Texas Bowl was in 2015 and the Tigers defeated Patrick Mahomes and the Texas Tech Raiders 56-27.
