A beloved sheriff in North Louisiana has passed away.
Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley passed away over the weekend at the age of 66.
Gilley’s family was at his side when he passed away.
“Sheriff Gilley was more than a fellow sheriff,” says Ouachita Parish Sheriff Marc Mashaw. “He was a dear friend to us all and a dedicated public servant.”
Gilley worked in law enforcement for almost 30 years, the last eight as sheriff.
“He was one that embodied the very best of law enforcement,” said Mashaw. “He was a Godly example of Christian leadership. He served not just with a badge but with the calling to serve both his community and the lord.”
Mashaw says Gilley’s death is not only a huge loss for Richland Parish, but for all of Louisiana.
“This department is in mourning over the loss of Sheriff Gilley,” Mashaw said. “He was one of us.”
Mashaw’s funeral will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Mangham Baptist Church, preceded by visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.
