The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (SFM) says Lowe’s Home Improvement has donated over 34,000 10-year lithium battery smoke alarms to the SFM’s Operation Save-A-Life program. Valued at more than 1-million-dollars makes it the largest donation in its history. State Fire Marshall Bryan Adams says since 2012, over 120,000 alarms have been installed through the program.
“Even with all those smoke alarms that we have distributed 65% of the homes in Louisiana still do not have a working smoke alarm.”
Lowe’s Slidell store initiated the donation, which STFPD #1 and SFM collaboratively accepted. Adams praised the partnership, emphasizing the life-saving impact of smoke alarms.
“This is going to make a difference. This is going to save someone life. Hopefully several people’s lives.”
Slidell Store Manager John LeMaster expressed gratitude and commitment to community safety.
“Your all first responders. How many thousands of accidents have you walked away from and said “Damn, if they just had a smoke detector.” Just one time. If all these can save one person, then today then today was a good day. Today’s a really good day.”
