Thursday is the national day of mourning for President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29th at the age of 100.
One organization near and dear to President Carter’s heart was Habitat for Humanity.
After leaving office, Carter helped the organization build a countless number of homes.
“Not just money, but actually hammering in the cold and the heat, and doing for others as we should all do,” noted Kathy Gardner, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of North Louisiana.
Gardner says Carter set the example for everyone else to follow.
“He has left a legacy behind him that now we continue to bring forth — and most happily bring forth — humanitarianism here in North Louisiana,” says Gardner.
Gardner says Carter embodied everything that Habitat for Humanity stands for.
“He was a great man of faith, and Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization that he can share that love with others as well,” Gardner says. “And we really are indebted to him for helping expose a greater level.”
Gardner says Carter left a lasting legacy at the organization.
“We mourn with the family,” says Gardner. “He was a great humanitarian, and he’s left a wonderful memory for his family and for all the rest of us to be an example of a loving human mankind.”
