Louisiana State Police announced on Friday afternoon an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Kyren Lacy of Thibodaux. Lacy was LSU’s second leading receiver in 2024 and declared for the NFL draft last month after three seasons with the Tigers. He played his first two years of college football at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Troopers say on December 17th in Lafourche Parish, Lacy recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated No Passing Zone. As Lacy illegally passed the other vehicles, a pickup truck on Louisiana Highway 20 abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with Lacy’s Dodge Charger.
A vehicle behind the pickup truck also swerved, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Following the crash, Lacy allegedly drove around the crash scene and fled south on LA Hwy 20 without stopping to render aid, call emergency services or report his involvement in the crash.
A passenger in one of the vehicles that crashed head-on, died from his injuries. He’s been identified as 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux, a military veteran.
Lacy is facing charges of negligent homicide, felony hit and run, and reckless operation.
The former Thibodaux High standout caught 58 passes for 886 yards and led LSU in touchdown receptions with nine. He was expected to be a mid-round selection before news of his criminal charges came out.
Lacy’s agent released a statement on Friday afternoon that said:
“We are aware of the allegations that have been made regarding Kyren Lacy, and we want to take this opportunity to address them. First and foremost, Kyren is fully cooperating with the authorities. We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation.”
