The United Cajun Navy is mobilizing efforts to aid California wildfire victims. Under the leadership of President Todd Terrell, the organization is sending truckloads of essential supplies, including tarps, personal protective equipment and hygiene kits.
“First of all, we’re just getting supplies out there right away that are more conducive to first responders and the people that are on the ground that are losing everything that just need something to stabilize them so we can pass the baton. We don’t plan on being out here but maybe about ten days,” Terrell said.
Terrell emphasized the urgency, noting how quickly support gathers once people hear they are in route. The journey from Louisiana to California spans 30 hours, but the distance does not deter their commitment to helping affected communities.
“We are in, not only California, but we’re also in the Carolinas, 2,600 miles to the east. And, we’re still doing stuff down here in Louisiana, so we’re coast-to-coast to the Gulf Coast,” Terrell said.
Terrell says dealing with fire is a completely different scenario than flooding; but at the end of the day, it comes down to helping people.
“So a lot of times, it’s over there, you know, just bringing them some wipes or, you know, some Gatorade or a little snack. It makes them have a little better day,” Terrell said.
