Restaurants and bars on Bourbon Street are coming together to raise money for those affected by the New Year’s Day terror attack. Fleur du Coeur starts today and runs through Sunday. Wendy Waren with the Louisiana Restaurant Association says they planned this in just a week; and when word started getting out, you didn’t have to ask establishments twice whether they’d like to participate.
“Once the word got out, other restaurants down in that area said ‘Hey, we want to do it,’ and other bars said ‘Hey, we’ll do the proceeds from a drink,'” Waren said.
Waren says establishments are picking one menu item for the event.
“GW Fins is doing their Lobster Dumplings. That’s one of their most popular appetizers. Acme Oyster House is going to donate a portion of their proceeds from their Chargrilled Oysters. Arnaud’s is going to do French 75’s, because they have their French 75 Bar, and that is their most popular cocktail,” Waren said.
Waren says all money raised from the sales of those specific menu items will go to help those who were injured and the families of those killed.
“100% of the proceeds of those items would go to the Greater New Orleans Foundation New Year’s Day Tragedy Fund,” Waren explained.
