Buzz is building for the probability of winter precipitation next week. LRN Meteorologist Bill Jacquemin says there’s a chance a large portion of the state could see snow and ice on Tuesday, but what we know for sure is that it will be cold, with dangerous wind chills.
“Temperatures by Monday night/early Tuesday morning will be below freezing as far as the Gulf Coast, including all the Delta Region, with temperatures during the day struggling for the freezing mark,” Jacquemin said.
Jacquemin says for snow, there needs to be precipitation, and it remains to be seen if the conditions will be right for precipitation to fall.
“There’s still a little uncertainty on a development of a surface low over the Gulf of Mexico and how much moisture it’s going to bring in across our region, leading to the potential for some winter precipitation,” Jacquemin explained.
“Jacquemin says we’ll have to wait a few more days before forecasters can accurately predict the possibility for snow. But he says there’s an excellent chance for pipe busting cold.
“What is certain, is temperatures are going to be well below normal for this time of year, and again, potentially the coldest weather so far this winter season,” Jacquemin said.
