President Donald Trump proposed dismantling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) during visits to disaster-stricken areas in North Carolina and California. Senator Bill Cassidy says if you don’t have FEMA you need something like it because sometimes disasters are too big for states to handle.
“We know that first had from Hurricane Katrina, and the feeling of some that there was not enough done shows you that you need somebody and you need somebody doing even more that is currently being done.
Cassidy says if there is no FEMA there needs to be something like FEMA.
“Because sometimes natural disasters are just too big. That being said, could FEMA get better? Of course, FEMA could get better.”
Cassidy says he believes this is a good time to look at the efficiency of FEMA and suspects that is what President Trump is alluding to as well.
“Let’s just say that I think the President is talking about a review of the processes, and I’m just making the point that we need a federal response.”
