The pregame entertainment at Super Bowl LIX will honor New Orleans’ rich musical heritage with a lineup of artists connected to Louisiana. Grammy and Oscar-winning musician Jon Batiste will perform the national anthem. The New Orleans native says when he sings the anthem he thinks about his life.
“And how my life can be something that honors the country and also honors the lives of everybody who’s watching in the different ways; the universality of our shared humanity,” Batiste said.
Lauren Daigle and New Orleans own Trombone Shorty will perform America the Beautiful prior to kick off. Daigle, a Lafayette native and Grammy-winning Christian music artist says she’s always loved this song.
“I mean, I remember being in grade school, we would do the honor to the servicemen every single Veterans’ Day, and we would sing this song. And I remember it meaning so much to me then, I had no idea I’d be singing it with friends, and that means so much to me,” Daigle said.
Trombone Shorty, a New Orleans jazz musician that brings a signature brass sound, noted they are blending his and Daigle’s signature styles to the stage.
“And we just try to put that together, almost like in a pot of gumbo. We just put everything in there. It all works out, and sounds ok to me,” Shorty said.
